A great piece of Southern American folk art. Please note the thick brush strokes and layered texture of the hand painted magnolia blossoms against the green base. This is not transfer ware, it is free hand painted except the leaves around the sides being painted over transfer.
The pierced handles are rolled down and trimmed with gold. The edges are nicely wire rolled.
It measures 22 by 10 1/4 inches and weighs a hefty 2 1/3 pounds.
Condition: It has no dents but it does have scrapes and darkened paint as it should.
Just a note: Please don't be fooled. I have been in the antique business long enough to tell you, if someone says a tin tray is antique or "vintage", it should look it. If the condition is too good, 99% chance, it is not old. Also, if a hand painted tray has lived through coal stoves and chain smokers of the 20th century, the paint will not be clean. You should be able to see thick brush strokes and layered paint.
